The Rock Garden
A rock garden captures the romance and beauty of nature. Rock gardening goes beyond just rocks and plants by offering a unique blend of artistic expression, natural beauty, and a touch of the wild. Imagine crafting a landscape in miniature, a tiny mountain range sprouting vibrant flora between weathered boulders. The quiet serenity of a well-designed rock garden offers a sanctuary for the mind.
Xeric rock gardening is about tough plants that can survive on minimal water, harsh sunlight, and rocky terrain. But beneath the surface of this rugged landscape lies a hidden beauty, a quiet resilience, and a surprising capacity for life.
Rock gardens combine rocks, stones and gravel with small plants. Using these materials add interest and depth to a garden and create an artistic focal point. For those in the Rocky Mountain region, natural rock gardens are found in the high alpine down to the much lower arid regions and desert.
Rock gardens can use very little soil or water and are relatively low-maintenance, making them a good choice for busy gardeners. Rock gardens allow you to grow difficult plants requiring steep slopes or poor soils. Types of rock gardens include naturalistic settings, alpine, xeric, crevice, rock walls, and troughs and are often combined.
